Sindh announces public holiday on August 20

Holiday announced to mark urs of Sufi poet Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai’s

On August 20, 2024, there will be a public holiday in the Sindh province of Pakistan. This holiday is in observance of the annual Urs of the revered Sufi poet, Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai. The Urs is a significant cultural and spiritual event that draws large crowds to Bhit Shah, where the poet is buried. The celebrations will include traditional Sindhi cultural performances, Sufi music, and other festivities. The Sindh government has issued an official notification to confirm the holiday across the province.

According to a notification issued by the government, all offices, educational institutions, autonomous and semi-autonomous bodies, corporations and local councils falling under the Sindh government will remain closed on 14th Safar, which falls on August 20.
